A devastating bus accident struck Kapilvastu early this morning, claiming the lives of 10 passengers and injuring 30 others. The incident occurred near Shivaraj Municipality-1 Surahi Bridge along the East-West Highway.
The bus, registered as Su P PRA 02-001 KHA 0098 and operated by Sunaulo Mahakali Transport, was en route from Mahendranagar to Kathmandu when it plummeted 200 meters off the road around 2 am. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Chief District Officer of Kapilvastu, Bishwaprakash Aryal, confirmed the tragic loss of life. Nine of the injured individuals have been referred to Butwal for advanced medical treatment, while the remaining injured are receiving care in Chandrauta.
At this time, only one of the deceased has been identified as Narayan Bahadur Bhandari of Rautahat. Authorities are working to identify the other victims and notify their families.
The Highway Safety and Traffic Management Provincial Office, Butwal, is leading the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking accident.
