115 Killed in Chitwan Road Accidents in a Year

Bharatpur: A staggering 115 lives were lost in road accidents within Chitwan district over the past year, according to alarming data released by the District Traffic Police Office. The grim statistics span from July , 2023 to June 2024.

Highways have emerged as the deadliest, claiming 57 lives. The East-West Highway topped the list with 26 fatalities, followed by the Narayangarh-Mugling road section with 21 deaths. The Prithvi Highway within Chitwan district contributed to 10 fatalities.

In contrast, inner roads of the district accounted for 50 deaths. Urban areas witnessed a comparatively lower toll of eight fatalities.

While the exact causes of the accidents are under investigation, the data underscores the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures, including improved infrastructure, stricter traffic enforcement, and public awareness campaigns.

The year prior, 2022-23, saw a slightly lower figure of 78 fatalities from 303 accidents.

Authorities have called for concerted efforts to address the growing concern over road safety in the district.
