On Monday, nineteen newly-elected members of the National Assembly officially took their positions after being sworn in. The ceremony, overseen by National Assembly Vice-chair Urmila Aryal, marked the formal induction of these lawmakers into office.

The conclusion of the term for 20 legislators, including National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Timilsina, occurred at midnight on Sunday. In response, elections were conducted on January 25 across all seven provinces to fill the 19 vacant seats. The CPN-UML secured one seat in the Koshi province, while candidates from various coalitions claimed victory in the remaining constituencies.

Krishna Prasad Sitaula of the Nepali Congress (NC) and Rukmini Koirala emerged as the elected representatives from the Koshi province. Meanwhile, Puja Chaudhary of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and Ananda Dhungana of the NC secured their positions in Madhes.

The Bagmati province witnessed triumphs for Bishnu Devi Pudasaini and Jeet Jung Basnet of the NC, Shree Krishna Prasad Adhikari of the CPN (Maoist Center), and Ghanashyam Rijal of CPN (Unified Socialist).

In Gandaki, Manarupa Sharma of the Maoist Center, along with Padam Bahadur Pariyar and Kiran Babu Shrestha of the NC, clinched victory. Bishnu Kumari Sapkota and Jhakku Prasad Subedi emerged as winners in Lumbini, representing the NC and Maoist Center, respectively.

The Karnali province saw Sabitri Malla of the Unified Socialist, Bishnu Bahadur Bishwakarma of the Maoist Center, and Krishna Bahadur Rokaya of the NC securing their positions through the electoral process.

Baldev Bohara and Narayan Datta Bhatta of the NC, alongside Renu Chand of the Maoist Center, triumphed in Sudur Paschim.

Although 19 seats have been filled, one remains vacant in the National Assembly. This remaining position will be occupied once the president nominates a member based on the Cabinet’s recommendation.
