A tragic bus accident near Ainapahara in Tanahun district has claimed the lives of 27 people. The incident occurred on August 23rd when a bus carrying 43 passengers from Pokhara to Kathmandu plunged into the Marsyangdi River.
According to local authorities, 16 people were seriously injured and airlifted to Kathmandu for medical treatment. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save them, the remaining passengers succumbed to their injuries.
The bodies of the deceased have been kept in Ambukhaireni Rural Municipality. The Indian Embassy has been notified of the accident as many of the victims were Indian tourists.
The bus, and another carrying a group of 90 Indian tourists, had entered Nepal from Belhia checkpoint on August 20. It was traveling on an 8-day itinerary.
Efforts are underway to identify the victims and inform their families. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
