Nepalese actress Thinley Lhamo has made history by becoming the first South Asian to win the prestigious Boccalino D’oro award at the renowned Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. The award recognizes outstanding acting performances and is bestowed by a panel of European film critics.

Lhamo received the accolade for her lead role in the film “Shambhala.” The film’s production team expressed immense pride in Lhamo’s achievement, highlighting her powerful portrayal of a character in a male-dominated society. The award is seen as a significant milestone for Nepali cinema and a testament to the growing influence of South Asian filmmaking on the global stage.

“Shambhala,” which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, is set for a Nepali release on September 13. The film is currently competing in the prestigious Piazza Grande category at the Locarno Film Festival.

Lhamo’s previous work in the film “Naakaa” has also garnered critical acclaim, solidifying her position as a rising star in the Nepali film industry.
