Renowned hotelier and founder of Dwarika’s Hotel and Resort, Ambika Shrestha, passed away on Thursday at the age of 91. She had been undergoing treatment for pneumonia at Mediciti Hospital in Lalitpur for the past two months.
A stalwart in Nepal’s tourism industry for over six decades, Shrestha took the reins of Dwarika’s after the passing of her husband in 1992. Her visionary leadership transformed the hotel into an iconic destination, celebrated for its rich cultural heritage and impeccable hospitality.
Despite battling and overcoming cancer four years ago, Shrestha remained actively involved in the management of the hotel until her illness. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday morning at Pashupati Aryaghat.
