Argentina secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chile on Wednesday in the Copa America 2024, solidifying their position at the top of Group A.

The lone goal came from Lautaro Martinez in the 88th minute, breaking the deadlock and sending a sigh of relief through the Argentinian camp. Argentina, the reigning World Champions, had previously struggled to find the back of the net throughout the match.

This win not only sees Argentina remain undefeated with six points from two games but also guarantees their place in the quarterfinals.

Earlier in the day, Canada secured their first win against a South American opponent in 24 years with a 1-0 victory over Peru. Jonathan David found the net in the 74th minute for the Canadians, while Peru were dealt a further blow when Maximiliano Araujo was sent off with a red card just before the hour mark.

With the group stage nearing its conclusion, Argentina will face Peru in their final match, while Canada takes on Chile.
