President Ram Chandra Paudel has appointed Major General Ashok Raj Sigdel as the new Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) of the Nepal Army, effective September 9. The appointment was made on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, in accordance with Article 267 (5) of the Constitution.
Sigdel, who is currently serving as the acting CoAS, will take over the reins from outgoing Chief of Army Staff Prabhu Ram Sharma. Sharma, who has been in the role since August 2021, is retiring after reaching the mandatory age limit.
The change of leadership comes as the Nepal Army prepares to face new challenges and responsibilities in the coming years. Sigdel, with his extensive experience and leadership qualities, is expected to steer the army towards a more modern and effective force.
