World Cup Qualifiers Fixtures: The road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup for Asian teams is a grueling one, with multiple group stages serving as a gauntlet that teams must navigate. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has outlined the qualification format, which will see eight teams directly qualify for the World Cup, while a ninth team will compete in the inter-confederation playoffs.

The first round, held from October 11-17, 2023, involved 20 teams playing home-and-away matches. The successful teams from this round have advanced to the second round, which is currently underway.

The second round, taking place from November 2023 to June 2024, features 36 teams divided into nine groups. The top two teams from each group will progress to the third round, scheduled to begin in September 2024.

In the third round, the 18 remaining teams will be split into three groups, with the top two teams from each group directly qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. The third- and fourth-placed teams will advance to the fourth round.

The fourth round, commencing in October 2025, will consist of six teams divided into two groups. The group winners will secure their spots in the World Cup, while the second-placed teams will proceed to the fifth and final round.

The fifth round, slated for November 2025, will be a two-team playoff, with the winner earning a place in the inter-confederation playoffs.
