Australia continued their fine form in the ICC T20 World Cup with a convincing 26-run victory over England on Saturday night. The win sees Australia climb to the top of Group B with four points from two matches.
England won the toss and opted to bowl first, but Australia got off to a flying start thanks to a quickfire knock from David Warner (39 from 16 balls). Mitchell Marsh (35 from 25 balls) and Travis Head (34 from 18 balls) also chipped in with valuable contributions to help Australia post a daunting total of 201/7.
In reply, England’s batting failed to fire. Jos Buttler top-scored with 42 runs from 28 balls, but wickets fell at regular intervals to leave England well short of their target. Pat Cummins (2/23) and Adam Zampa (2/28) were the pick of the Australian bowlers.
The win is Australia’s second in a row in the tournament, having previously defeated Namibia. They now sit comfortably at the top of Group B, while England’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals have taken a major blow.
