Australia posted a total of 164 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their first T20 World Cup 2024 match against Oman in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Despite losing the toss and experiencing a shaky start, Australia managed to set a challenging target thanks to solid batting performances from openers David Warner and Marcus Stoinis.
Warner struck a well-made 56 runs with six and six fours before being dismissed. A mini-collapse threatened to derail the Australian innings, but Stoinis stepped up to the crease and played a captain’s knock. The all-rounder remained unbeaten on a powerful 66, laced with six maximums and two boundaries.
Contributions from Mitchell Marsh (14), Travis Head (12), and Tim David (10) ensured Australia reached a defendable total.
Oman’s bowlers did well to restrict the scoring rate at times, with Mehran Khan taking two wickets. Bilal Khan and Kaleemullah also chipped in with a wicket apiece.
Now, the pressure shifts to Oman. Can they chase down this target of 165 and pull off an upset against the five-time champions?
