Bagmati Province Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama is set to undergo a crucial test of his leadership as he faces a vote of confidence Today(July 30).
Just seven days after being appointed to the top post, Lama, a Nepali Congress leader, has called for a trust vote. The decision comes amid political maneuvering in the province that saw the previous Chief Minister, Shalikram Jamkattel of the Maoist Center, resign on July 21 due to shifting power dynamics.
Lama, backed by a coalition of the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, secured the chief ministership on July 24. He has since formed his cabinet and is now seeking the assembly’s endorsement.
To win the vote, Lama needs the support of at least 56 out of the 110 provincial lawmakers. His coalition currently commands a majority with 64 seats, including 37 from the Nepali Congress and 27 from the UML.
The opposition, led by the Maoist Center with 21 seats, along with other smaller parties, will be closely watching the proceedings. The outcome of the vote will determine the stability of the provincial government and the future political landscape in Bagmati.
