Bahadur Singh Lama, the leader of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party, has been appointed as the fifth Chief Minister of Bagmati Province. He has successfully secured a vote of confidence from the Bagmati Province Assembly.
Lama’s proposal for a vote of confidence, made per Article 168 of the Constitution, was passed by a majority. Speaker Bhuvan Pathak announced that the proposal was approved with 64 votes in favor and 35 against.
Of the seven parties in the Bagmati Provincial Assembly, only the Nepali Congress and UML supported Lama. The Nepal Workers Peasants Party, which has three members, did not support the proposal. Today’s meeting saw the attendance of 103 out of the 110 provincial assembly members.
