Kathmandu: Today, on the auspicious occasion of Bhai Tika, the Bal Gopaleshwar Temple, nestled in the heart of Ranipokhari, will open its doors to those who are without siblings. This annual tradition allows individuals without sisters or brothers to seek blessings and perform rituals at the temple.
The Newar community celebrates Bhai Tika as Kija Puja. While some members of the community observed Kija Puja yesterday, many will visit the Bal Gopaleshwar Temple today to offer prayers and receive the sacred tika.
Historical records indicate that Ranipokhari was constructed in 1727 by King Pratap Malla to appease the queen after the tragic demise of their son, Chakravartendra Malla. The Bal Gopaleshwar Temple was subsequently built at the center of the pond.
Another popular destination for those without siblings on Bhai Tika is the Khanjneshwar Mahadev Temple in Jayabageshwori. Devotees flock to this temple to seek blessings and perform rituals.
