Frustrations flared again in Kathmandu as residents of the Banchare Danda landfill site blocked garbage trucks again on Monday. This latest protest comes after days of accumulated waste due to unmet demands by the local community.
Dozens of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) garbage trucks were halted, adding to the over 300 vehicles already stopped by residents. Bhupdev Sah, Chief Private Secretary to the KMC Mayor, reported that hundreds of trucks are now overflowing on Kathmandu’s streets.
The residents of Banchare Danda have been protesting since Sunday, citing a lack of progress on their demands. The specifics of these demands haven’t been disclosed, but the situation highlights the ongoing challenges Kathmandu faces in managing its waste effectively.
