Bangladeshi Minister of Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury arrived in Nepal today via the Kakarbhitta border crossing. Leading a delegation, Minister Chowdhury will participate in ministerial talks between Nepal and Bangladesh, scheduled to begin today in Kathmandu.
During his visit, Minister Chowdhury toured the dry port at Kakarbhitta. Mechi Customs Office Chief Ram Prasad Regmi and Kakarbhitta Dry Port Chief Ambika Subedi briefed the Minister on Nepal-Bangladesh transit operations and bilateral trade.
Before his Nepal visit, Minister Chowdhury traveled to India and inspected a newly constructed dry port at Phuentsholing, Bhutan. His arrival in Nepal marks the first time in four years a high-ranking Bangladeshi official has entered the country through the eastern border. This follows India’s previous restrictions on third-country nationals entering Nepal via Kakarbhitta due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minister Chowdhury’s nine-member delegation was welcomed by officials including Mechi Customs Office Chief Regmi, Port Chief Subedi, and Deputy Chief of the Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu Israt Jahan.
