In a bold move to curb the rampant pollution of the Sirsia River, Birgunj Metropolitan Corporation has resorted to drastic measures. The city authorities, in collaboration with the city police, dumped garbage at the main gates of three industries accused of polluting the river.
The targeted industries include Aarnica Processing Industry, Srisiddhi Textiles, and Moriam Leather Industries Pvt Ltd, all located in Parwanipur. This symbolic act was carried out on Sunday as a last resort after repeated warnings to the industries were ignored.
According to Hari Bhusal, the chief of Birgunj Metropolitan City Police, the metropolis had been urging the industries to refrain from discharging waste into the Sirsia River for an extended period. However, their appeals fell on deaf ears, prompting the administration to take this stringent action.
The metropolis had previously issued a 15-day ultimatum to the industries in May, threatening consequences if they failed to address the pollution issue. Unfortunately, the industries remained indifferent, leaving the authorities with no other option.
City Police Chief Bhusal has vowed to continue this crackdown, asserting that any industry found polluting the river in the future will face similar consequences. This decisive action by the Birgunj Metropolis is seen as a strong message to industries and a step towards safeguarding the environment.
