After Thursday night’s storm brought down electricity poles, Birgunj and surrounding areas faced a nine-hour power cut. The outage comes during the hot summer months, making life difficult for residents.
According to Awadhesh Kumar Dubey, Head of Birgunj Distribution Center of Nepal Electricity Authority, crews are working rapidly to replace the downed poles, which were knocked down around 1 am on Thursday. The outage affects some 56,000 electricity customers in Birgunj and the surrounding areas. Unfortunately, rain is currently hampering repair efforts.
