Bidur Municipality-6 in Nuwakot has experienced a complete traffic shutdown after a 40-year-old concrete bridge over the Trishuli River collapsed. Rajan Shrestha, head of Bidur Municipality, explained that structural support failed, likely due to construction work related to the Devighat hydropower station.
The bridge initially showed signs of damage in early December, leading to restrictions that only allowed two-wheeled vehicles to pass. Authorities are working to restore the bridge and ensure the safe flow of traffic.
In the meantime, the municipality advises drivers to detour using the Dhunibesi Bridge in Simchaur or the Devighat Bridge. This closure primarily affects the short road connecting Bidur Municipality-4 market to Bidur-6 Mandre Dhunga, Tarkeshwor rural municipality, and Dhading Bensi.
The Infrastructure Development Office in Nuwakot has acknowledged that the affected road section is part of the “Regional Road Master Plan” as proposed by Bidur Municipality. However, a decision on the maintenance and reconstruction plans for the bridge is still pending.
