A Buddha Air aircraft departing Kathmandu on Thursday night experienced a scare while landing at Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa.
According to airport officials, the plane skidded off the runway by approximately four-fifths of a meter (around 1.5 meters) and came to a rest on the grassy shoulder. Thankfully, Ruppandehi Police Chief SP Ranjit Singh Rathore confirmed that all 59 passengers onboard disembarked safely.
Buddha Air’s technical team is currently working alongside police to tow the aircraft back to the runway.
Ruppandehi Police Spokesman Manohar Prasad Bhatta clarified that the incident occurred during the plane’s east-to-west landing approach at Bhairahawa Airport. All passengers were successfully evacuated, and Bhatta assured they continued on to their intended destinations.
