Two buses carrying passengers are missing after a landslide swept them into the Trishuli River in Chitwan, Nepal on Friday morning. The incident occurred along the Chitwan-Narayangadh-Muglin road section near Simaltal.
The condition of the passengers and the buses remains unknown. A search operation involving the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and armed police divers resumed this morning after being called off on Friday due to high water levels and murky conditions.
“We have started searching and rescuing in the midst of murky water,” said Chief District Officer Indradesh Yadav.
The missing buses were identified as Bagmati Province Bus No. 03-001 Kha 2495 (traveling from Kathmandu to Gaur) and Bagmati Province Bus No. 03-006 Kha 1516 (coming from Birgunj to Kathmandu). A total of 51 passengers are unaccounted for, with 27 on the Kathmandu-Gaur bus and 24 on the Birgunj-Kathmandu bus. Three passengers reportedly managed to escape by jumping out of the vehicles before they fell into the river.
The search for the missing individuals continues.
