The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has officially lifted the suspension on national cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, following his acquittal in a rape case by the Patan High Court.
In a statement released today, the CAN confirmed that its decision was under the court’s ruling, which overturned the earlier verdict by the Kathmandu District Court.
Lamichhane, a prominent leg-spinner for the Nepali national team, had been facing rape charges since 2022. The Patan High Court’s ruling on Wednesday cleared him of all allegations.
With the suspension lifted, Lamichhane is now eligible to resume his cricketing career and potentially represent Nepal in international matches.
The CAN’s decision has been met with mixed reactions from the public and cricketing community, with some expressing support for Lamichhane’s return to the sport, while others raise concerns about the implications of the court’s decision.
