Chandragiri Car Accident Death Toll Climbs to Five

KATAHARI, Nepal – The death toll from a tragic car accident in Setopahara, Chandragiri Nepal has risen to five, according to local authorities. The accident occurred earlier yesterday, around 1:55 pm, on the Panighat stretch of Chandragiri Municipality-4.

The deceased include:

  • Omkar Nidhi Tiwari, 76
  • Kalpana Tiwari, 64 (both from Maitidevi)
  • Dr Mahesh Kumar Gautam
  • Four-year-old Priyansh Gautam (both from Lazimpat, Kathmandu)
  • Smarika Gautam, 6 (died while receiving treatment at Vayodha Hospital)

All four individuals who died at the scene, tragically, were killed on impact when the vehicle (Pra3-01-23 Cha 6985) veered off the road and plunged approximately 500 meters down a steep slope. The vehicle was reportedly en route to Chitlang from Kathmandu when it lost control.

Smarika Gautam, who sustained injuries in the accident, was initially rushed to Vayodha Hospital for treatment. However, despite medical efforts, the young girl succumbed to her injuries, bringing the total death toll to five.

One Person Remains Hospitalized

Dr Sristi Tiwari, Smarika’s mother, was also injured in the accident and is currently receiving treatment at Vayodha Hospital. Her condition is being monitored by medical professionals.

Superintendent of Police, Kumodh Dhungel, confirmed the updated death toll and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. He also stated that an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
