The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has brought to light the arrest of Ramlal Bamjan, also known as Ram Bahadur Bomjon, on charges of sexual harassment, pedophilia, and forced disappearance of individuals. The arrest took place on Tuesday evening at Bamjan’s residence in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu.
CIB Chief, Additional Inspector General of Police Kiran Bajracharya, revealed that the arrest was made in response to a complaint filed by a 22-year-old woman who had been a disciple in Bamjan’s ashram in Halkhoriya, Bara, since July-August 2014. The charges against Bamjan led to the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Sarlahi District Court on February 20, 2020.
During the raid at Bamjan’s residence, police discovered a staggering amount of foreign currencies from 17 countries, totaling Rs 3 million and 92 thousand. Additionally, Nepali rupees amounting to 30 million and 375 thousand were seized. Authorities suspect Bamjan of illegally accumulating this wealth.
The self-proclaimed ‘Little Buddha,’ aged 34, attempted to evade arrest during the raid by jumping from a window on the south face of the fourth story of his house, as reported by CIB Spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Nawaraj Adhikari.
In addition to the currency hoarding charges, authorities confiscated 14 mobile phones, four laptops and tablets, 20 pen drives, and various other electronic devices during the raid. The police are now intensively investigating complaints related to individuals who are reported to have mysteriously disappeared from Bamjan’s ashram.
The controversial spiritual leader gained notoriety over the years for his claimed enlightenment and establishing an ashram in Halkhoriya. This arrest sheds light on a darker side of Bamjan’s activities, raising concerns about the well-being and safety of those associated with his spiritual community.
The investigation is ongoing, and the CIB is urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in uncovering the truth behind the alleged crimes committed by Ramlal Bamjan.
