A 54-year-old mountaineer, Lakpa Tenji Sherpa, has died while descending from Mount Makalu, the world’s fifth-highest peak, in the Sankhuwasabha district of Nepal.

Sherpa, from Solukhumbu district, had successfully climbed Makalu but went missing on the border of Makalu Rural Municipality-2 and 3 during his descent. His body was found at the Makalu base camp on Friday afternoon.

Due to the remote location and lack of transport and communication services in the Makalu area, it took five days to retrieve Sherpa’s body and transport it back to his home district of Solukhumbu.
