The Mountain Sports Association and the Everest Climbers Association will jointly host the “Late Babu Chiri Sherpa Memorial Open Sports Climbing Competition” on Monday. The Nepal National Mountaineering Guide Association will provide technical support, and the competition will feature separate divisions for men and women.

The Mountain Sports Association, based in New York, promotes adventure mountain sports internationally. Everest Climbers Association President Maya Sherpa emphasized the legacy of Babu Chiri Sherpa, a renowned climber and world record holder.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers. The late Babu Chiri Sherpa notably climbed Mount Everest ten times, including four ascents from the Chinese side. He held the world record for spending 21 hours on Everest’s summit without supplemental oxygen and for the fastest ascent from the south side (16 hours, 56 minutes). Sherpa tragically passed away in 2001 during his eleventh Everest attempt.
