Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the vice-chairman of CPN-Maoist, has been transferred to the Central Investigation Bureau of Police (CIB). Reports indicate that upon his arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Mahara was promptly taken to the CIB for further proceedings.
Mahara’s transfer follows his arrest in Rupandehi on charges related to the smuggling of 60 kilograms of gold. Sources suggest that he was apprehended while lodging at the residence of a Maoist-affiliated attorney.
The transportation of Mahara to Kathmandu was facilitated by a Yeti Airlines aircraft. Police sources have revealed that Mahara was allegedly plotting to flee to India via the Amargarh crossing in Kapilvastu but was intercepted and arrested during his attempted escape.
Formerly serving as the Speaker, Mahara’s recent involvement in the aforementioned case has attracted significant attention.
