A police constable, Sohan Chaudhary, tragically lost his life after falling from a cliff while attempting to arrest an absconding prisoner, Umesh Singh Kunwar, in Darchula. Kunwar, a 23-year-old resident of Mahakali municipality, was initially detained for investigation in a rape case.
According to the Sudurpaschim Province Police Office, Constable Chaudhary, from Kailari rural municipality in Kailali, suffered fatal injuries in the fall and passed away during treatment at the district hospital. His body is currently awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Kunwar had been arrested on Falgun 21 in connection with an extortion and murder case. He escaped police custody by swimming across the Mahakali River into India. With the assistance of the Indian Gurkha Regiment (GR), authorities apprehended Kunwar on the riverbank.
