Dashain Tika and Blessings

Biratchowk, Nepal: The third day of Dashain Tika, celebrated on Ashwin Shukla Dwadashi, is underway in Nepal. The tradition of offering Dashain Tika and Jamara as prasad of Navadurga continues to be observed.

This year, Ghatasthapana, the first day of Dashain, took place on 12 October. The nine-day festival culminates with Vijayadashami, marked by the immersion of the goddess. However, the practice of offering prasad and seeking blessings from elders often extends until Kojagrat Purnima.

Individuals who were unable to visit their elders on the first day can still do so until the full moon day to receive tika and blessings. In certain regions of western Nepal, it is customary to offer Durga prasad and blessings only on Vijayadashami.

According to the Nepal Panchang Adjudicatory Development Committee, the classical tradition dictates that the prasad of Navadurga should be offered until all sacrifices are fulfilled, which extends to Kojagrat Purnima.
