Deadly Storm Ravages West Bengal, India

Heavy rains, hailstorms, and a destructive summer storm known as ‘Kaal Baisakhi’ have caused widespread damage and loss of life in West Bengal, India. According to BBC Hindi, four people have died due to falling trees, and 300 injured individuals have been hospitalized – 20 of them in critical condition.

A local Jalpaiguri resident described the storm’s devastating impact on the region. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has pledged full support to those affected, visiting the disaster zone to assess the situation and meet with survivors. She announced that the district administration will provide compensation to families of the deceased and injured, and urged immediate relief efforts from disaster management teams.

The BBC reports that people impacted by the disaster have been evacuated to safety.
