A horrific train accident near Nepal’s eastern border has left five people dead and over two dozen injured. The incident occurred this morning near New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal.
According to Darjeeling District Acting Police Chief Abhishek Rai, a passenger train, the Kanchanjunga Express traveling to Sealdah in Kolkata, collided with a freight train approaching New Jalpaiguri at around 9:30 am. The impact of the collision was severe, derailing three coaches of the passenger train.
Rai confirmed five fatalities and reported that more than two dozen passengers sustained injuries. Details regarding the extent of their injuries and any ongoing medical treatment are likely forthcoming.
