Delhi Capitals registered their first victory of the IPL 2024 season, overcoming defending champions Chennai Super Kings by 20 runs in a thrilling encounter at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. Despite a late cameo by MS Dhoni (37*), Delhi’s disciplined bowling attack held firm to deny CSK a comeback.

Electing to bat first, Delhi got off to a blazing start courtesy of Prithvi Shaw (43) and David Warner (52), who put on a 93-run opening stand. Rishabh Pant (51) then took charge with a captain’s knock, guiding Delhi to a formidable 191/5. Matheesha Pathirana starred for CSK with 3-31.

In reply, Chennai’s chase faltered early as Khaleel Ahmed struck twice to remove openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra cheaply. Ajinkya Rahane (45) and Daryl Mitchell (34) attempted a rebuild, but Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar kept chipping away with crucial wickets.

MS Dhoni’s late fireworks, including 20 runs off Anrich Nortje in the final over, ignited excitement but couldn’t salvage the match for CSK. Delhi Capitals’ bowlers executed their plan brilliantly, restricting CSK and securing a well-deserved victory.
