Dipesh Pun Faces Probe

Dipesh Pun, son of former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, has found himself entangled in a web of legal troubles. Initially apprehended on charges of gold smuggling, Dipesh now faces additional scrutiny for alleged cooperative fraud in Butwal.

Following his arrest in Kathmandu, Dipesh was swiftly transported to Butwal for further investigation into his suspected involvement in cooperative-related fraudulent activities. This development comes in the wake of a significant gold seizure, totaling 61 kilograms, at the Tribhuvan International Airport office back in July.

Authorities have pointed to connections between Dipesh and the primary suspect in the gold smuggling case, Dawa Chirring. Moreover, the report from the investigation commission on gold smuggling implicated Dipesh in the illicit operations.

The cooperative fraud investigation stems from complaints filed by victims against the Supreme Cooperative Rupandehi, managed by Gitenbabu (GB) Rai, alleging misappropriation of their deposits. Dipesh, who previously served as the treasurer of the Supreme Cooperative, now faces legal action after it was discovered that depositors’ funds had been unlawfully diverted.

The District Court in Rupandehi had already issued an arrest warrant against Dipesh in connection with the embezzlement of savers’ funds. Notably, other key figures within the Supreme Cooperative, including Chairman Om Prakash Gurung and the manager of the cooperative’s Bhairahawa branch, Durga Chapagain Pandey, have also been detained as part of the ongoing investigation.
