Dr. Mohan Man Sainju dies aged 83, He was Former Vice-Chairman of National Planning Commission

Kathmandu: Renowned economist and former Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Dr. Mohan Man Sainju, passed away on Tuesday evening at the age of 83. He had been battling Parkinson’s disease for several years.

Dr. Sainju had a distinguished career in public service. He served as the Nepali Ambassador to the United States, Vice-President of the Poverty Alleviation Fund, Member of the National Planning Commission, Dean of Tribhuvan University, and Chief Expert of SEDA. His contributions to Nepal’s economic and social development have been significant.

He was honored with several prestigious awards, including Suprabal Gorkha Dakshina Bahu, Mahendra Bidya Bhushan, and Prabal Tri Shakti Patta. Dr. Sainju was a prolific writer, with over 150 articles on economic, social, and development policies published in both English and Nepali.

He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter. His funeral is scheduled for Friday.
