The Terai region continues to suffer the effects of an extended drought. A lack of rain and dry weather have caused multiple fires across the Rupandehi district, damaging homes, and crops, and killing livestock.
On Saturday afternoon, a fire ignited in Rohini Rural Municipality-6, spreading rapidly to nine nearby villages due to strong winds. Despite efforts from local police, armed forces, firefighters, and residents, the blaze destroyed 40 homes and killed 39 goats. Thankfully, no human casualties have been reported.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Manohar Bhatta, spokesperson for the District Police Office, reports that similar fires have erupted throughout Rupandehi. Losses are also mounting in Gaidahawa Rural Municipality.
