The Narayangadh-Butwal section of the East-West Highway has been closed due to a landslide near Gaindakot Thumsi in East Nawalparasi. The road was blocked around 2:00 pm yesterday after heavy rains caused a collapse in the forest area.
According to Bed Bahadur Paudel, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Information Officer for the Nawalparasi (Bardghat-Sustapur) District Police Office, crews are working to remove a truck that is currently stuck in the landslide debris.
Eight passengers sustained minor injuries when a westbound passenger bus (Lu 1 Kha 8513) braked suddenly to avoid the collapsed section. The bus came to a stop and collided with another bus behind it.
The Narayangadh Butwal road expansion project estimates that the blocked road will be reopened within the next hour. They have also informed us that a previously blocked section further down the highway has been cleared and is now operational.
