A 72-year-old pilgrim went missing on Monday after being swept away by a river while bathing near the Dupcheshwor Mahadev temple in Nuwakot. The incident occurred in Suryagadhi Rural Municipality, Ward 6.
According to Superintendent of Police Shantiraj Koirala, the victim, Himkumari Adhikari, was bathing in the Suryamati (Tadi) river when she was carried away by the strong current. She had come to visit the temple with her family.
Rescue efforts were immediately initiated, but as of Monday afternoon, there was no sign of the missing woman. The search has been hampered by the swift and turbid river flow due to recent flooding.
In an effort to expedite the search, the village council has announced a cash reward of Rs. 50,000 for anyone who can provide information leading to the victim’s whereabouts.
