The national electricity grid has now reached Yak Kharka-Ledar, located near Tilicho Lake Base Camp and Thorang La Pass in the Himalayan district of Manang. This development brings much-needed electricity to these high-altitude regions, benefiting residents and tourists.
Tilicho Base Camp, situated at an altitude of approximately 4,150 meters above sea level in Nesyang Rural Municipality-9, and Leather in Manang Nessyang Rural Municipality-6, at 4,200 meters, are now connected to the national grid. The Electricity Authority Manang Distribution Center has installed 50/50 KVA capacity transformers to power both areas.
Electricity has already been supplied to Thorong La High Camp (4,880 meters), and efforts are underway to extend the line further to Thorong La Pass (5,416 meters). This will significantly improve conditions for tourists on the Annapurna Trail.
Before the arrival of the national grid, these areas relied on solar energy and generators for electricity. The intermittent nature of these power sources often left the region in darkness, particularly during inclement weather. With the new connection, hotels and businesses can now operate more reliably, offering better services to tourists.
Local officials and residents have expressed their gratitude for this development. They believe that the availability of electricity will enhance the overall tourist experience and contribute to the economic growth of the region.
