Elephant Found Dead in Belbari

Morang: A young female elephant, estimated to be around 7-8 years old, was discovered dead in Karam Danda of Belbari Municipality Ward No. 3 on August 13.

According to local police, initial investigations suggest that the elephant may have died from electrocution. This tragic incident marks the latest in a series of elephant deaths in the region, with half a dozen elephants losing their lives in Jhapa, Morang, and Sunsari districts alone this year.

While electrocution appears to be a common cause of death, conservationists are alarmed by the increasing number of elephant killings, some of which have involved the use of firearms. The escalating attacks on these endangered animals have raised serious concerns among wildlife experts and environmentalists.
