Seoul: South Korea is grappling with a severe heatwave that has sent hundreds of people to hospital emergency rooms with heat-related illnesses. According to data from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), a staggering 384 cases were reported nationwide between Monday and Friday of last week alone.
The intense heat, which followed the conclusion of the monsoon season, peaked on Thursday with 114 reported cases. Tragically, four heat-related deaths were also confirmed during the same period.
Temperatures have soared across the country, with many regions experiencing readings exceeding 35 degrees Celsius. The southeastern city of Yangsan even recorded a scorching 40 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
As the heat wave continues to grip the nation, health officials are urging residents to take precautions to prevent heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses. These include staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak hours, and seeking medical attention if symptoms arise.
The government has also issued heatwave warnings for several regions, advising residents to stay indoors and take necessary precautions.
