Two individuals in Jhapa district are suspected to have died due to the extreme heat on Saturday, May 25th, as temperatures soared to 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit).

Pedestrian Found Unconscious

74-year-old Nara Bahadur Shrestha of Mechinagar-9 was discovered unconscious near the Timai Bridge in Dhulabari around 5:30 pm on Saturday. Locals found him and rushed him to Mechi Amda Hospital, but doctors sadly declared him dead.

According to neighbors, Shrestha was believed to be returning home after attending a local afternoon gathering in Dhulabari. Given the high temperatures, locals suspect he succumbed to the heat. Shrestha was also the father of Mechinagar 9 ward member Dhan Bahadur Shrestha.

Abandoned Body Discovered

Adding to the concerns, an unidentified man, estimated to be 60-65 years old, was found deceased on the roadside in Buddhashanti’s Jaipur area. Police reported that the man, who was known to beg in the area, was likely another victim of the extreme heat. He is suspected to have collapsed due to the harsh conditions.

These incidents highlight the dangers of exposure to extreme heat, especially for vulnerable populations like the elderly and those without access to proper hydration or shelter.
