A ferocious fire tore through Delta Mart, a prominent wholesale and retail store in Butwal’s Milanchowk, on Thursday evening. The blaze, reported to have started around 6:30 pm, raged for nearly five hours before firefighters could finally contain it.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Bijayraj Pandit reported a coordinated effort to extinguish the flames. Firefighters from Butwal sub-metropolitan city, along with Nepal Police and residents, battled the inferno throughout the night. Reinforcements with fire engines arrived from neighboring municipalities and even Bhairahawa’s Gautam Buddha International Airport, highlighting the intensity of the blaze.
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the results are evident. The three-story Delta Mart was reportedly consumed entirely by the flames. Thankfully, authorities successfully prevented the fire from spreading to nearby houses. The true extent of the damage is yet to be determined, but Deputy Superintendent Pandit estimates financial losses in the crores of rupees.
