A fire has erupted at the Lalitpur Kupandol office previously occupied by Hamro Sagarmatha Multipurpose Cooperative. This incident occurs amidst a complex situation involving the merger and potential demerger of several cooperatives, including Hamro Sagarmatha, Ideal Yamuna, and three others.
KB Upreti, former president of Hamro Sagarmatha and current chairman of the National Cooperative Bank, led the merged organization. However, the merger failed to integrate operations, leading to a demerger application filed with the cooperative department.
The fire, now under control according to the Lalitpur Police Complex, raises questions due to the office’s electricity line being cut for unpaid bills. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire in the closed fourth-floor office.
This incident adds to the woes of the cooperative, which is already facing complaints from savers for unpaid dues. The cooperative department is actively collecting these complaints, potentially leading to the organization being declared problematic.
