Rupani Rural Municipality in Saptari district, Nepal, faces flooding after the Khado River breached its embankment near the Shambhunath Municipality border.
Dinesh Kumar Yadav, Chairman of Rupani Rural Municipality, confirmed that floodwaters entered the settlement, submerging at least 50 houses.
The flooding is attributed to a combination of factors. Firstly, heavy and continuous rainfall has saturated the ground, hindering water drainage. Secondly, the Khado River’s overflowing embankment near Shambhunath Municipality has exacerbated the situation, allowing floodwaters to cascade into Rupani.
The situation is not limited to Rupani. Heavy rains have also caused waterlogging in various wards of Rajbiraj Municipality. Here, hundreds of houses are inundated with up to three feet of stagnant rainwater due to drainage issues.
The extent of the damage and the number of people displaced remain unclear at this time.
