Kathmandu: The funeral for Deepak Oli, a 30-year-old Nepali man tragically killed in a robbery at a Texas gas station, will be held on Sunday, in Elgin, Texas. The funeral service will take place at Providence Jones Family Funeral Home at 9:00 AM US time.
Oli is survived by his wife, Bimala Budhathoki, and a 5-year-old daughter, Deepika. The family is grappling with the immense loss and the financial burden of a loan amounting to 40 lakh rupees, incurred to facilitate Oli’s journey to the United States.
According to Khasokhas Nepali Media based in the USA, A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Oli’s family in Nepal, with a target of $65,000. The campaign has already raised $43,394 as of this writing.
The fatal incident occurred on Sunday morning at Gator Stop 3 in Elm Mott, Texas, where Oli was employed as a cashier. Two armed robbers entered the store and opened fire, killing Oli instantly.
This tragic event highlights the growing concern over the safety of Nepali workers in the United States, particularly those employed at gas stations. Several similar incidents have been reported in recent years, including the fatal shooting of Bhesraj Lamichhane in Colorado and the wounding of Dipendra Joshi and Bhim Bahadur Nath in Texas.
