Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Surendra Raj Pandey will resign on Tuesday afternoon following a discussion within the Nepali Congress parliamentary party. Close associates confirm his decision. The party will hold a formal meeting upon the arrival of chief whip Nandu Neupane, who is currently in Kathmandu.
Pandey’s government became a minority on March 6th after the Maoist Center withdrew support. Constitutional provisions require a vote of confidence within one month of a minority government. To comply with both the constitution and state assembly rules, Pandey must formally notify the parliament secretariat of his intent to seek a vote of confidence by Tuesday afternoon, with the vote itself scheduled on or before April 4th.
