Far West Nepal: The Gaura festival, a significant cultural event in the Far West region of Nepal, officially commenced today, Saturday, August 24th. This tradition marks the beginning of the festival on Bhadra Shukla Paksha Panchami, a day known as Biruda Panchami.
Biruda, a sacred offering to Goddess Gauri, is created by soaking five grains (meat, kale, wheat, wheat, and grass) in a copper pot covered with cow dung and decorated with Akshata. Women traditionally sing Sagun and Phag while preparing the Biruda.
The days of Saptami and Ashtami are considered particularly auspicious during the Gaura festival. Devotees believe that fasting and praying to Goddess Gaura will bring blessings of health, longevity, and prosperity to their husbands and families.
The celebration of Gaura will conclude on Navami, the last day of Krishna Janmashtami.
