The Nepalese government has mandated a standardized maximum retail price (MRP) for Jar water sold within the Kathmandu Valley.
The Department of Commerce, Supply, and Consumer Protection has observed discrepancies in water pricing, with different companies charging varying rates for products of similar quality, quantity, and temperature. The department has specifically highlighted the practice of charging higher prices to hotels, restaurants, and businesses.
To ensure fair pricing, the government has fixed the maximum price for a 20-liter water jar at Rs. 47 and a one-liter bottle at Rs. 16. Water-producing companies have been warned to adhere to these regulations, with legal action threatened for non-compliance.
