Torrential downpours overnight have led to severe flooding across the Kathmandu Valley, with the Bagmati, Hanumante, Godawari, and Manohara rivers overflowing their banks. The resulting inundation has caused widespread disruption, including road closures and the displacement of hundreds of residents.
Tragically, the body of an unidentified man was discovered under the Thapathali bridge, believed to be a victim of the flood.
Bhaktapur district has been particularly hard hit, with numerous houses in Jagati, Sallaghari, and Barahisthan submerged. Schools and hospitals in the area have also suffered significant damage. The Hanumante River has exceeded danger levels at Jagatima and Kaushaltar, exacerbating the situation.
Lalitpur district is not exempt from the crisis, with the Bagmati River surpassing danger levels at Khokana. The Manohara and Godavari rivers have also risen above critical levels.
The entire Kathmandu Valley has experienced heavy rainfall, with some areas recording over 100 millimeters of precipitation in just 12 hours. The weather bureau has warned of continued heavy rain in most parts of the country, except for Madhesh, as the monsoon remains active.
Authorities are working tirelessly to address the situation, but the extent of the damage is still being assessed. Residents are urged to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines.
