Bill Cobbs, a beloved actor with a career stretching over five decades, passed away on Tuesday, June 25th. He was 90 years old.

The news was confirmed by Cobbs’ brother, Thomas, in a Facebook post.

“Bill recently passed away peacefully at his California home, surrounded by loved ones,” Thomas wrote. “He was a cherished friend, brother, parent, and godfather, and had just happily celebrated his 90th birthday.”

Cobbs leaves behind a prolific filmography, with appearances in nearly 200 films and television shows. He is remembered for roles in major motion pictures like the action-thriller “Demolition Man” (1993) and the critically acclaimed “That Thing You Do!” (1996).

Cobbs’ acting career began in the 1970s. He graced both the big and small screens, appearing in popular TV shows like “Good Times,” “The Equalizer,” and even “Sesame Street.” His film credits also include “The Hitter,” “Trading Places,” and the Oscar-winning “The Color of Money.” Most recently, he starred in the 2023 television miniseries “Incandescent Love.”
